 BD Performance Torque Converter, 5R110

The torque converter bears the brunt of the engine’s torque. Stock torque converter stator pitch designs slip excessively. This causes the oil to over heat and the front cover clutch surface to warp. The BD torque converter is specifically designed to handle the kind of abuse a diesel engine will give it.

BD converters feature a stamped forged steel cover, much thicker than stock and stronger than steel billet. There is also double the amount of lock up clutch material of a stock unit. The turbine and impeller fins are furnace brazed to prevent internal leakage. The cast aluminum stator design maximizes the low-speed torque of the diesel engine.

The stall speed is lower resulting in more positive engagement in drive, enhanced low-speed drivability, and better fuel economy.

If you tow or just use a daily driver, you’ll like that this converter is designed to handle up to 1,000 lb.-ft of torque. It does not have a hard engagement; it is designed for high output towing applications.
