Product Description

Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) 06-10 Duramax 6.6

This Genuine OEM Bosch fuel pressure regulator is installed in the CP3 high pressure pump on 6.6 L LBZ and LMM Duramax. The fuel pressure regulator is the most likely cause for a surge at idle or a loping idle. See our diagnostic section for more info.

One of the most common fuel related failures we have witnessed on the CP3 pump on Duramax is the fuel pressure regulator (FPR), referred to by Bosch as an MPROP. The FPR is the metering device, that directs fuel to the pumping plungers for the CP3 injection pump.

If the FPR is sticky, stuck or not working properly, the ECM cannot quickly command the fuel pressure regulator to the correct position and control how much fuel it should be delivering. Or it may cause a surge, excess smoke, or poor throttle response, because it is slow to respond. A sticky fuel pressure regulator, on the LB7, is very common, and will cause a surge or lope at idle. In most cases, people first know there is an issue when they have a hard start or no start issue because the FCA will not allow the pump to properly build pressure to start. The FCA has probably been delivering less than the desired amount of fueling and is usually a slow death, due to wear, and not an immediate failure.

If you’re experiencing hard start or no start issues, one easy way to confirm whether the FCA is causing the issue is to simply unplug it, thus eliminating any metering. Presuming the truck starts, immediately shut it off as you will have maximum fuel rail pressure, but now you have a potential culprit with the FCA causing the issue. However, worn injectors will also cause a hard start no start condition as well.
