An economical way to improve the performance and clutch life of your stock transmission is to install a BD Performance Valve Body. Our complete upgrade of the stock valve body consists of new valve designs, increased capacity springs, revised oil circuits and optimized governor piston dimensions which the improved oil flow reduces temperatures and lowers torque converter evacuation time for quicker clutch apply.
BD’s NEW DESIGN achieves up to 80% higher clutch apply pressures over the stock unit and up to 50% over the competitors with the increase starting at much lower engine rpm’s and at lighter throttle pedal position movement. Light throttle shift firmness is also maintained at these higher apply pressures.
This new building process also eliminates the often referred to “Shuttle Shifting” or hunting-for-gears in the 2004-2006 48RE transmissions.
With the new designed valve bodies achieving the higher pressures, a BD PressureLoc is no longer needed when an exhaust brake is installed to assist in preventing convertor lock up clutch slippage – this unit does it all! 
(BD still recommends the use of a PressureLoc for transmissions not equipped with one of our new designed valve bodies when an exhaust brake is installed.) 
We also added second gear lock-up capability that with the addition of one of our TorqLoc or TowLoc kits can offer serious engine retarding capability on towing applications.
Each valve body is tested to ensure proper function before shipping. While you’re replacing the valve body, add one of our heavy duty aluminum oil pans for greater oil capacity, cooler oil temperature and improved case rigidity.

BD Variable Vane Exhaust Brake

For 2006 - 2010 Duramax and 2008 - 2010 Ford 6.4 L Powerstroke

The variable vane turbocharger design used in the 2006- 2010 Duramax and 6.4 L Ford Powerstroke to reduce turbo lag and increase power can also help slow you down. BD utilizes this technology to electronically close off the vanes which can create up to 130 retarding horsepower. This braking force will help to maintain your speeds on descents and curves, giving you better control of your truck and load.

While in Tow/Haul mode, switch BD’s Variable Vane Brake (VVB) on and every time you let off the throttle, it will close the variable vanes in the turbo, developing exhaust back pressure in the engine’s combustion chamber which creates resistance against the piston from reaching top dead center.

vgt controlThe VVB rotary switch offers three different modes included automatic moderate and aggressive downshifting programs for the Allison transmission to give better weight control. Exhaust braking also works in Allison manual shift selections. The VVB integrates with the cruise control to automatically accelerate and decelerate to maintain vehicle speed.

Easily and simply installs by plugging into existing factory ports and by mounting the rotary switch on your dash. Maximizes Your Exhaust Brake’s Retarding Power—Automatically!
If your torque converter isn’t locked up when the exhaust brake is applied, you’re only benefiting from a fraction of its retarding power. The BD AutoLoc commands the torque converter to lock up, and stay locked up, any time the exhaust brake is applied in third and fourth gears. This not only helps with engine braking, but because there’s no clutch slippage, transmission oil temperatures remain low. The lock-up clutch and exhaust brake automatically disengage at low speeds to prevent stalling and transmission/converter damage.

BD TorqLoc Transmission Control

You Decide When the Torque Converter Locks or Unlocks for Maximum Control!

Command the torque converter to stay locked, stay unlocked, or revert to OEM settings with the BD TorqLoc. Flip the toggle switch to  position one, and the lock-up clutch is engaged, so transmission temperature remains low and the exhaust brake can work with 100% effectiveness (this is a manual setting and should only be selected under light load/light power conditions, such as highway driving).
 
Position two reverts back to stock function, or can be wired to unlock the torque converter. Position three acts as an AutoLoc by commanding lock-up only when the exhaust brake is engaged - perfect setting for every day driving in all situations. 

Additionally, the TorqLoc has an Overdrive “inverter” option which allows the transmission to start out in Drive which will prevent upshift into the Overdrive gear - great for those who live in city/urban areas.  Also, if you have a BD Valve Body with the second gear lock-up capability, the lock-up can be set to hold until 5-10 mph.

Also available is the Torq/UnLoc which acts the same as the TorqLoc but in the third position the converter is prevented from locking up.

Dodge Cummins
Prevents torque converter “shudder” and clutch slippage!
It’s strange but true—the torque converter in ’94-’01 Dodge-Cummins applications is more likely to slip at part throttle than full throttle. Why? Because the transmission’s line pressure is controlled by throttle input—the more throttle you give it, the higher the line pressure goes. The problem is, the Cummins produces its peak torque at light throttle, when line pressure is at its lowest! The innovative BD PressureLoc is designed specifically to address this problem. 

The PressureLoc increases converter lock-up clutch apply pressure by 30% at light throttle by rotating the transmission’s throttle shaft to a position that approximates 3/4 throttle. Designed primarily for stock or mildly modified engine applications and for owners who have installed an exhaust brake and would like added protection from slippage. This is not a substitute for a modified valve body! For higher horsepower and/or heavily loaded applications, we recommend the addition of a BD Performance valve body. Call for details.

Your transmission was only designed to handle the torque and horsepower the stock engine delivers, and in the case of some Dodge models, even the stock torque can present a challenge. So when you start adding power modules, turbo upgrades and other bolt-ons, it’s only a matter of time before the transmission wears out and eventually fails.
 
BD transmissions are built specifically to handle the high torque loads of diesel engines at our state-of-the-art transmission facility. We re-program the valve body for higher line pressure, and add heavy-duty clutches with up to 25% more material than stock. The stock thrust washers, which disintegrate and leave metal filings in your transmission, are replaced with roller Torrington bearings. We install new input shafts and hubs to eliminate possible metal fatigue or high torque load damage from prior use. We upgrade early 47RE transmissions with more rugged 48RE components. We recommend billet steel input and output shafts for applications with extra big tires and modified power levelshttp://oregonfuelinjection.com 

Inside each transmission is a NEW DESIGN valve body that achieves up to 80% higher clutch apply pressures over the stock unit and up to 50% over the competitors with the pressure increase starting at much lower engine rpm’s and at lighter throttle pedal position movement. Our transmission packages also include a BD rigid aluminum heavy duty transmission pans’ which adds extra oil capacity and reduces case flex, plus, includes a BD auxiliary full flow filter kit for extra protection.

Each transmission is dyno-tested to make sure it functions properly in all gears, then the pan is dropped and everything inspected and adjusted before it is shipped to you in one of our containers. 

Other options to consider when replacing your transmission are to mate the BD transmission with one of our Torque Convertors — we have 2 to choose from.  Our stamp forged Flex Plates that meet SFI 29.3 for race track applications for added performance and strength behind high out engines. In high performance, high-load situations, the torque converter bears the brunt of the engine’s force. Inferior torque converter designs can slip excessively, causing the oil to foam and boil, and the front cover to “balloon”—even rupture. But BD’s torque converter was specifically designed to handle the kind of punishment you dish out.

Built on our premises in a state-of-the-art transmission facility, BD converters feature a stamp forged steel cover that is actually stronger than steel billet, up to triple the clutch material, furnace brazed fins and our own billet aluminum stator design that maximizes the low-speed torque characteristics of the Cummins engine.

On the street, you’ll notice that stall speed is reduced significantly, resulting in more positive engagement in drive, enhanced low-speed drivability and better fuel economy. If you drag race or sled pull, you’ll appreciate that the TorqForce is designed to handle up to 1,400 lb.-ft of torque in an 11-second truck. And if you tow a heavy trailer, check this out: BD's converter has been tested to 850 lb.-ft of torque, towing a 26,000 lb. load up a six-percent grade!

BD Steering Stabilizer

BD’s new Steering Box Stabilizer (SBS) eliminates steering wander and wobble caused by excessive shaft play in the steering box of late-model Dodge trucks. Designed for easy, bolt-in installation in about an hour, the SBS virtually eliminates frame flex at the steering box mounting point, resulting in more positive steering feel.

The BD SBS is silver vein powder coated for corrosion resistance, and features a grease-able, high-quality bearing for reliable operation. Made in Canada, the SBS comes complete with high-strength mounting hardware and instructions.

Adjustable Track Bar is built from rigid 1 3/8” DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) seamless heavy wall 0.313” tubing with formed and precision welded collars that have durable, heavy duty Poly bushings. With the OEM ball joint design, frequent maintenance is required to prevent side-to-side movement of the front axle which can cause wear, hammering, wandering and the dreaded “Death Wobble” - BD’s Track Bar is the perfect solution for steering stability and is a great compliment to BD’s Steering Box Stabilizer. Plus, it is adjustable to accommodate up to 3”-4” lifts!

BD’s Adjustable Track Bar Kit comes complete with zinc plated bar, powder coated anchor bracket (1994-2002 models), poly bushing kit and grease nipples.

BD Camplates

Looking for Big Daddy radical Power? You found it! At least 20 engineers were involved in designing the Fuel Stop Plate and Governor controls. The fuel stop plate controls the fuel quantity of the Bosch P7100 fuel pump that is the heart of the Cummins engine performance. The Governor controls the engine response to load and the maximum engine rpm

It only took 1 engineer to reverse design the BD Fuel Stop Plate. BD offers 6 different ramp designs of the Fuel Stop Plate that result in 30 to 150 hp and 70 to 300 lbs of torque increase and a calibrated boost tube orifice improves your turbo performance.

If you are going beyond the 250-hp level you will need to address the need for increased exhaust flow, which requires a different turbo and you also need a larger exhaust system and cold air intake kit for peak performance and low EGT.

We recommend this kit be installed by an experienced technician. It requires opening up the fuel pump and precise setting of the plate to insure the proper adjustment to prevent over fueling and damage to the engine.

Stop exhaust manifold cracks in their tracks with BD’s new Pulse exhaust manifold for the Dodge-Cummins. Cast from high silicon ductile iron, the Pulse features expansion joints that allow the manifold to expand and contract without cracking or exhaust leaks. As the name would imply, these manifolds are “pulse tuned” to assist in combustion chamber evacuation and increased exhaust flow. 

The result is quicker turbo spool-up, reduced backpressure, increased power and better fuel economy. Some kits include stainless steel fasteners and washers to prevent lost or loose manifold bolts - gaskets are available separately.

Balanced exhaust flow for more power and lower EGT’s!
You may not know it, but the factory driver’s side exhaust manifold is pinched down to allow for steering shaft clearance, which actually isn’t required. As a result, this manifold only flows 80% of the passenger side. BD’s Full Bore exhaust manifold restores exhaust flow balance, improving power and reducing EGT. Made from high-silicon ductile iron, the Full Bore is a direct, bolt-in replacement for the factory manifold and is even drilled and tapped to accept the most popular EGT probes.

Cummins 5.9 6BTA 12 valve ’91 thru ’98 and ISB 24 valve engines all use BOSCH Injectors to atomize the fuel delivered by the high pressure fuel pump.

BD has found different Bosch injector nozzles that do flow more fuel and produce more power. Included with the kit is a metered orifice that increases your turbo boost for the exact air fuel ratio.

BD also offer X Pulse Injectors that have been reworked to increase the amount of fuel beyond the stock design. Bosch injectors result in 20-40 Rear Wheel Hp increase depending upon the engine and injector nozzle. The new X Pulse produce 30-50 RHP.
